# Mobile Inspection Walkthrough

# Mobile Inspection Walkthrough

The 1nspecT mobile app is the inspector's on-site tool for capturing photos, video, deficiency findings, and AI-assisted narratives. This guide walks through a complete inspection from opening the app to saving the last finding.

***

## Opening an Inspection

1. Log in to the 1nspecT mobile app with your inspector credentials.
2. On the **Home** screen, tap the inspection you want to open from the **Active Inspections** list.
3. Tap **Start Inspection** to enter the inspection.

***

## The Inspection Capture Screen

The Capture Screen is where you record every finding. It is organized top-to-bottom:

```
[ Photo / Video preview area ]
[ 📷  🎥  📁  — capture controls ]
[ Pending Co-Inspector pills (if any) ]
[ Section navigation bar ]
[ Subsection navigation bar ]
[ Caption field ]
[ AI tools row: ✨ AI Generate | 🪄 Library Search | 🔬 Vision Analysis ]
[ Narrative field ]
[ Field Note (optional) ]
[ Rating buttons: I  NI  NP  D ]
[ Save  |  Save + New ]
```

***

## Capturing Media

### Take a Photo

Tap the **📷** button to open the device camera. After capturing, the photo appears in the preview area at the top of the screen.

### Take a Video

Tap the **🎥** button to record a short video clip. A thumbnail is shown in the preview area with a play indicator.

### Import from Library

Tap the **📁** button to select a photo or video from your device's photo library. Useful for importing photos taken with a separate camera.

### Edit / Markup

After capturing a photo, tap **Edit** to annotate it with shapes, arrows, and text using the Markup tool. Markup is embedded in the photo and stored with the finding.

### Shrink / Expand

Use the **Shrink** and **Expand** buttons to resize the photo preview area while you work. Shrink gives more screen space to the form fields; Expand gives a larger photo reference.

***

## Selecting Section & Subsection

Tap a section in the **section navigation bar** (e.g. "Electrical") then tap the specific subsection (e.g. "Main Panel") in the subsection bar. Your selection persists until you change it.

> Always select the correct section and subsection before saving a finding — this determines where the deficiency appears in the report.

***

## Writing the Caption

The **Caption** field is a short (6–15 word) description of the finding, written in inspector shorthand. Example:

> `Damaged shingles at rear slope — granule loss visible`

The caption becomes the title of the deficiency card in the PDF report.

***

## AI Narrative Tools

Three AI tools are available to help write the finding narrative:

### ✨ AI Generate (Text-Only)

Generates a full CAR-format narrative (Condition + Action + Recommendation) from the caption alone using your section context. Does not require a photo. Costs 2 IT tokens.

### 🪄 Library Search (Semantic)

Searches your narrative library for the closest matching narratives using AI semantic ranking. Returns up to 3 suggestions. Costs 1 IT token. Suggestions appear as chips below the caption field.

**FREE (Library)** chips are local keyword matches from your library — no AI cost.

### 🔬 Vision Analysis (Multimodal)

Analyzes the captured photo using AI to generate a narrative grounded in what is visually present. Requires a photo. Costs 8 IT tokens.

Toggle the **🔬** switch to enable Vision mode before tapping **✨ AI Generate**.

***

## Co-Inspector (AI Secondary Findings)

When Vision Analysis runs, the AI may spot additional deficiencies visible in the same photo. If it does:

1. A **review modal** slides up automatically showing up to 3 proposed findings.
2. For each proposed finding:
   * Tap **+ Queue** to accept it and add it to your pending queue.
   * Tap **✕ Skip** to dismiss it.
3. Accepted findings appear as green **📋 caption** pills between the capture controls and the section nav.
4. Finish your current finding → tap **Save + New** → the form clears.
5. Tap a pill to pre-populate the caption and narrative for that queued finding.
6. Take a new photo of that finding, adjust the section/subsection, and save.
7. Repeat until all pills are cleared.

> Co-Inspector findings are suggestions only — always verify visually before saving. The AI targets only high-confidence safety hazards, structural deficiencies, and active moisture/rot.

***

## Narrative Library Chips

If your narrative library contains matching entries, **FREE (Library)** chips appear below the caption field automatically as you type. Tap a chip to insert it into the narrative field. No AI tokens consumed.

***

## Rating the Finding

Tap one of the four rating buttons:

| Rating | Meaning                                          |
| ------ | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **I**  | Inspected — no deficiency noted                  |
| **NI** | Not Inspected — explain why in the narrative |
| **NP** | Not Present — component not found at property |
| **D**  | Deficient — deficiency noted; narrative required |

> **NI reminder:** If you tap NI, a reminder toast appears prompting you to include the reason and recommendations in the narrative.

***

## Saving a Finding

* **Save** — saves the current finding and stays on the same form (fields preserved) for any follow-up notes.
* **Save + New** — saves the current finding and clears all fields to begin the next capture.

A finding requires at minimum: a selected subsection and a caption. Photo, narrative, and rating are strongly recommended.

***

## Saving to Narrative Library

After writing a narrative you want to reuse in future inspections:

* Tap **Save to Narrative Library** below the narrative field.
* The narrative is de-identified and saved to your library. Costs 1 IT.
* It will appear as a **FREE (Library)** chip in future inspections when the caption matches.

***

## Reviewing Your Findings

From the inspection home screen, tap **Review** to see all captured findings organized by section and subsection. You can:

* Edit any finding
* Delete a finding
* Flag a finding for the Summary section of the report
* Reorder findings within a subsection

***

## Finishing the Inspection

When all findings are captured:

1. Tap **Finish Inspection** from the inspection home screen.
2. Review the completion checklist (all required sections rated, narrative coverage).
3. Tap **Complete** to mark the inspection as finished.

The inspection status changes to `complete` and the report becomes available for review in the **Report Workspace** on the web admin.

***

## Next Step

Once the inspection is complete, open the web admin and [Generate Your First Report](/1nspect/getting-started/generate-your-first-report).
