Narrative Library

The Narrative Library (route /narrative-library) is the master list of narrative collections for your tenant. Each collection groups a set of narratives — photo captions, deficiency comments, report-area comments — typically scoped to a template or inspection type. This article documents the list view and the create-collection flow. For editing within a specific collection, see Narrative Collections.

When you use it

  • First-week setup — create one collection per template (TREC Residential / Commercial / New Construction / etc.)
  • Quarterly review — archive stale collections; clone a working collection to start a variant
  • Onboarding a new template — every template assignment in the Order Creation Wizard lets you pick a narrative collection; that picker pulls from the list here
After initial setup the list grows slowly — most tenants end up with 3–8 collections total.

Each collection card shows:
  • Collection name
  • Count of narratives in the collection
  • Associated template(s) — if any
  • Last modified date
  • Per-card actions: Open / Rename / Duplicate / Delete

Creating a collection

Click + Create New Collection to open the dialog:
FieldRequiredNotes
Collection namePlain text — e.g. “TREC Residential 2026” or “Commercial Property Standard”
DescriptionOptional internal notes
Associated templatesMulti-select from your templates. Limits which orders this collection can be picked for.
After creation, you land in Narrative Collection Detail for the new collection — typically empty until you add narratives.
Why associate templates? When inspectors or operators choose a narrative collection for an order, the picker filters to collections that match the order’s template. Associating helps keep the picker focused.

Loading state

While collections fetch from Firestore, the page shows:

If the load fails (typically a Firebase connection issue):

Refresh; if persistent, check your network or contact support.

What this page does NOT do

  • It does not edit narratives. That’s Narrative Collection Detail.
  • It does not assign collections to orders. That happens in the Order Creation Wizard → Narrative Collection picker.
  • It does not show usage analytics. No per-narrative click-count surface yet.
